TEF-Health Launches Second Open Call: Subsidized Testing and Validation Services for AI and Robotics in Healthcare
Up to €300,000 in subsidized support available for European SMEs developing healthcare AI and robotics solutions
Berlin, April 2025 — The TEF-Health consortium, co-funded by the European Commission under the Digital Europe Programme and national governments, is pleased to announce the launch of its Second Open Call for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This opportunity provides subsidized access to top-tier testing, validation, and certification services across Europe, supporting the development of safe, effective, and trustworthy AI and robotics solutions in healthcare.
A European Infrastructure to Accelerate Health Innovation
TEF-Health (Testing and Experimentation Facility for Health AI and Robotics) unites 52 partners across 9 EU countries—including hospitals, academic institutions, testing centers, and regulatory experts—to help health technology innovators transition from TRL 6 to market readiness. The project offers support aligned with the latest European regulations, including the AI Act, Medical Device Regulation (MDR), and GDPR.
Services available include:
- Clinical and simulated environment testing
- Access to structured, high-quality health data
- Regulatory consulting and CE-marking readiness
- Cybersecurity and trustworthiness validation
- Support for AI/ML model performance evaluation
What’s New in Open Call #2?
The second call expands the scope of services and access for SMEs across Europe. Each selected applicant can receive discounted or fully subsidized services under EU de minimis state aid rules, up to €300,000 per SME over three fiscal years.
Eligibility:
- SMEs legally registered in the EU or EEA
- AI/robotics solutions at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 or higher
- Applicants must not have exceeded the €300,000 state aid threshold
Applications are evaluated on a rolling basis (approx. 45 working days) until 31 December 2027 or until service capacity is filled.
